Mumbai eyes 3rd trophy as Pune looks for maiden IPL title.
Excitement is on the rise as the Rising Pune Supergiant and Mumbai Indians lock horns for the season-ending Grand Finale at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, which will be hosting its first ever knockout/playoff game in the IPL.
RPS have a clear psychological advantage over MI purely based in the fact that they have already beaten Mumbai Indians three times in this season. Hence became only team after CSK to beat MI thrice in single season. On other hand Mumbai Indians are arguably the most balanced side with all bases covered in this 10th edition of IPL. Yet they have failed to register victory against the Rising Pune Supergiant. The biggest challenge for MI is to come up against the RPS bowling attack.
Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad
Head to Head
Overall: Matches played – 5, Mumbai Indians Won – 1, Rising Pune Supergiant Won – 4
In 2017: Matches played – 3, Mumbai Indians Won – 0, Rising Pune Supergiant Won – 3
RPS have the best overall economy rate in VIVO IPL 2017 – 7.93.
MI have the best death overs scoring rate in VIVO IPL 2017 – 10.72.
An interesting stat- Rohit Sharma has never lost IPL final. He was part of Deccan Chargers who won the 2nd edition of IPL in 2009 and also led MI to 2 IPL titles (2013 and 2015). With regard to this fact MI will certainly have the upper hand but equal psychological pressure as well.
Now it remains to be seen whether Rohit Sharma becomes the first captain to lift 3 IPL trophies or Smith leads Pune to maiden IPL title.
What in the end
The winning team will be crowned VIVO IPL 2017 Champions and take home a glittering trophy and the winner’s purse of INR 15 Crore. All players and support staff from the winning side will receive mementoes while the losing team will have to be content with a cheque of INR 10 Crore, presented to the runner-up.
